{"id":287,"date":"2010-04-14T21:33:12","date_gmt":"2010-04-14T20:33:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bookleteer.com\/blog\/?p=287"},"modified":"2010-04-14T21:41:47","modified_gmt":"2010-04-14T20:41:47","slug":"bookleteer-virtual-residencies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bookleteer.org\/blog\/2010\/04\/bookleteer-virtual-residencies\/","title":{"rendered":"Bookleteer Virtual Residencies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since the alpha version of bookleteer went live last September we&#8217;ve been discussing with a number of friends and colleagues what we can do to demonstrate the API (Application Programming Interface) &#8211; which allows other applications, sites and systems to interface directly with the <em>Generator<\/em>, the engine behind bookleteer.com which generates the PDF files for eBooks &#038; StoryCubes.<\/p>\n<p>Following several years of <a href=\"http:\/\/diffusion.org.uk\/?cat=36\" target=\"_blank\">successful residencies<\/a> with writers and artists using the old Diffusion Generator to create and publish eBooks of their own, we decided to offer two &#8216;virtual residencies&#8217; a year to creative individuals to play with the API and show what can be done with it &#8211; creating eBooks and StoryCubes from other data sets and web applications.<\/p>\n<p>Our first two virtual residents are <a href=\"http:\/\/booktwo.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">James Bridle<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/ambulantscience\/\" target=\"_blank\">Simon Pope<\/a>. James has already used the API to interface with his own project, <a href=\"http:\/\/bkkeepr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">bkkeepr<\/a> to create &#8216;bookcubes&#8217; (more details to follow in a separate post) and Simon is working on a project combining walking, cairns and StoryCubes.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst bookleteer is in alpha, access to the API will be private &#8211; though we welcome people to <a href=\"mailto:bookleteer@proboscis.org.uk\">get in touch<\/a> who have a specific use in mind and would like to test it out.
